On Sunday 19th May, the ceremony of Beating the Bounds takes place in Shermanbury, led by Rev. Paul Doick.
Beating the Bounds is an ancient tradition of checking the parish boundary, strengthening the community and giving it a sense of place. The bridleway between St Giles and the chapel on Fryland Lane represents the parish boundary, with a family friendly, level route of about one mile. Tea and home-made cakes will be available to purchase at St. Giles during the afternoon, and the Saxon church will be open on the day. There will be a short talk explaining the chapel’s history.
